“It is as easy as taking a picture.”

My wife and I have been using Google Lens for years. We usually use it during one of our nature walks when we are wondering about a plant or a bird. But Google Lens is also great at identifying almost anything that you can take a picture of.

Hardly a day goes by without us at Triple K Irrigation receiving a call looking for help identifying a part. Frequently it is a gasket.

What is frustrating is that we can’t see what you are seeing. Pictures help but it is hard to determine the size without perspective.

Introducing Google Lens. “Search what you see!”

Google Lens is a free app available for Android and iPhone devices.

It is an image recognition technology developed by Google, designed to bring up relevant information related to objects it identifies using visual analysis based on a neural network.

The Google Lens feature is enabled by default in the camera app on most Android phones. Or you can simply go to your device’s Play or App Store and search on Google Lens and download.

Honestly, it is as easy as taking a photograph. Google will then search its database of images and come up with a short list of possible matches with descriptions. For many products, it will also give you a list of options to buy it.

While it is rarely perfect, nine times out of ten there will be a match and at least it is a starting point.
