So what are Bauer Fittings?

Great question! The short answer is that they are a specialty fitting that uses a ball and socket coupling to connect two pieces of hose together. They are used in a number of industries, including agriculture, manure distribution, municipalities and drip irrigation.

This system was originally invented in 1947 in Austria by Rudolf Bauer, as a way to quickly couple water transfer hose and pipe together. It is unique because of the way it uses a locking lever to join the male hose tail containing the ball, to the female’s hose tail’s socket.

According to Bauer-AT.com, “In 1947, Rudolf Bauer made the invention that was of vital importance for the further development and expansion of the company: the Bauer lever closure coupling (HK). This water, air and pressure tight quick coupling system is patented all over the world. In the 1960s, the first Bauer slurry tanks left the factory, in 1970 the Rainstar hose reel machine rolled off the assembly line for the first time and revolutionized the irrigation sector. Ten years later, Bauer launched the pivot and linear systems.

Simplicity in the design makes this system the easy choice for members of the agricultural community world wide. Below are some handy links to a variety of Bauer fittings and parts that we stock.

Bauer Type A Style
Type A fittings are designed to be used with larger hoses, generally used with 8″ and 10″ hoses used in manure distribution and waterirrigation. Unlike bolt flanges or cam lock grooved fittings that require precise alignment, Bauer Type A fittings allow for easier installation and routing becasue they cab be offset by up to 30 degrees depending on the pipe size. The “A” style fitting is comprised of a ball and socket with a locking lever and sealing ring.

Bauer Type B Style

Type B fittings are designed to be used with hoses from 2″ through 8″. They are designed to lock on the male side with a double pin lockinglever and are equipped with a safety pin to prevent accidental openings.

Which Type is the best? What is the difference between Type A and Type B fittings?

“The best” is subjective and it really comes down to personal preferences. With the A-Type fittings the levers are welded directly to the socket (or female) end of the fitting. On B-type fittings, the levers are welded onto a floating ring that slips over the ball (or male) end. Either will do  a great job for you.

Doda Style

The “Doda” style fitting is similar to the Bauer except it comes with a fixed clamp with three hooks and a sell ring. It is commonly used with hoses from 4″ to 6″
