Once again California is experiencing record fires across the state.

And the crop most under threat in California today is not almonds, tomatoes, or grapes. It is Cannabis.

According to phys.org‘s recent post, “Our findings affirm that  agriculture is geographically more threatened by wildfire than any other agricultural crop in California,” said Christopher Dillis, lead author of the study and a postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley’s Cannabis Research Center.

Since cultivation became legal in California in 2018 it has already grown to be a $3 billion agricultural crop. “In 2020, California tax revenues from legal cannabis sales amounted to over $780 million.”

And while other states are not fighting the fire danger seen in California, there are now 8 states where you can legally grow cannabis commercially – and some other states are allowing you to grow cannabis for your own use. No wonder drip irrigation has become am increasing factor in sales for us at Triple K Irrigation.
