- Water under pressure exerts thrust forces in piping systems at: changes in pipe size or direction, dead ends and valves.
- The design of thrust-blocking requires knowledge of the thrust generated and the bearing strength of the soil against which the thrust block will be placed.
- To be effective, a thrust block must:
- be placed against undisturbed or fully compacted earth.
- contact the fitting over a sufficiently large area so as not to create stress points on the fitting.
- have sufficient area on the soil to restrain the thrust without exceeding the bearing strength of the soil.
- Supply line 3" in diameter and larger shall receive concrete thrust blocks. Please research specifications for amount of concrete to be used for thrust block.

A Transition Coupler 6" Insert Coupling in irrigation is a fitting used to connect two different types of pipes, usually from one material to another (e.g., polyethylene (PE) to PVC or aluminum). The insert coupling specifically refers to a barbed or ribbed design that allows for a secure grip inside flexible pipe materials. After the Layflat hose has been used it expands and becomes challenging to seal around the barb. This 6” insert is designed to accept the stretched-out lay-flat hose. This coupling can also be used with a new hose with a smaller diameter close to the ends of the couplings.
